Judiciary Committee 300 Capitol Avenue Hartford, CT 06106 Judiciary Committee, I’m opposed to HB5448, An Act Concerning a Risk Protection Order or Warrant. Currently, the risk warrant is available to anyone at any time with police arriving immediately. It makes no sense for someone to wait till the courthouse opens to file for an “extreme risk” warrant, if someone is so concerned that someone is at “extreme risk” they should...

Dear Judiciary Committee, Please oppose H.B. 5448. This bill turns a temporary order into a permanent one without any concern for due process, with no participation of the accused, or without any independent investigation into the matter. The bill gives no details on counsel for the respondent, the respondent’s ability for their own witnesses or cross‐examine others. The unintended consequence of this bill is that gun owners will no longer seek mental health treatment because of fear of losing their rights. Support H.B 5390 allowing legal permit holders to protect themselves in a place of worship. Support H.B 5432 to allow Connecticut residents more options in self-defense. Best regards, [Name] [Town]
Re: OPPOSTITION to HB 5448 AN ACT CONCERNING A RISK PROTECTION ORDER OR WARRANT Joint Committee on Judiciary, I’m opposed to this bill. Once again leave it to this committee to take the guns first, go through due process second. At such a high rate of abuse of ex parte order in Connecticut-people that aren’t at risk will have their right to self-protection taken away and may never get them...

Judiciary Committee, I’m opposed to HB5448, An Act Concerning a Risk Protection Order or Warrant. There is no need to change Connecticut’s current law. This current law is available to anyone at any time 365 days a year with police arriving within minutes from the time of call. In Connecticut, a confiscation petition may be filed only by law enforcement officers or state’s attorney. Any person—including family members, former dating...

Judiciary Committee, Public Hearing on HB 5448, HB 5390, HB 5432 I oppose H.B. 5448. This bill ignores due process, putting the burden of proof innocence on the accused. When in America did we decide that not everyone deserves due process, an opportunity to be heard and defend themselves before their rights are taken from them. This is the face of tyranny! I ask you to Support H.B 5390 allowing...

Esteemed Judiciary Committee Members, I am opposed to HB5448 AN ACT CONCERNING A RISK PROTECTION ORDER OR WARRANT. This bill is talking about taking away people's rights and due process. Basically, you're guilty until proven innocent [INSERT NAME] [INSERT TOWN]
Members of the Joint Judiciary Committee If we are looking to make a change to the law, it should be that anyone who uses it as a “revenge tool” gets charged. The situation becomes even more precarious when loved ones can petition for the removal of firearms. Spurned former partners or family members seeking revenge might “weaponize” this tool. Because of that, there should be a penalty for maliciously false...
